The Patterns of Successful Leadership ?
Being a leadership & business coach, observing patterns of successful leadership has now become a daily habit. Every interaction with leaders during training programs, networking, panel discussions, and events, keep enriching me by means of helping me track the success pattern.
Sharing top 3 success patterns/mindset of a great leader.
1) They say ‘I don’t know’: Initially, I used to think that ‘leaders know everything’ rather ‘leader should know everything’. However, my interaction of business coaching actually starts when the MD/owner says ‘Sumit, this is the current scenario/crisis/situation, and I don’t know how to go ahead. Please guide us’. Accepting ‘not knowing something’ actually creates a possibility of knowing. They learn, get trained, and/or hire coach to learn what they don’t know.
On the contrary, poor leadership beholds an old thought of ‘I know everything, I don’t need any help’. They try to pretend invulnerable.
2) Risk taking: 2nd Pattern of successful leadership is taking calculated risk. During my interactions with leaders, I always see a zeal & an adrenaline rush to do something great at all the time. They keep setting bigger goals and put in lot money & emotions to achieve it. Sometimes, I have to remind them the reality of their financial limits. Nevertheless, they keep stretching their limits and take risks which are pragmatic in nature.
Poor leadership wants to play safe at all the times, which ultimately limits their & team’s growth in many ways.
3) Say ‘No’ upfront: Leaders do not waste time in keep things hanging. If they don’t want/can’t, they will say No upfront. By doing so, they save a lot of their & other’s time. Communicating your consent/unwillingness quickly, helps tons of time in reviewing & revisiting same issues.
On the contrary, poor leadership likes to keep the status quo. They want to look good by not denying any request upfront, but what they actually end up doing is making the next person more frustrated as he/she can’t plan anything now.
Remember. ‘Leadership is a BIG responsibility’.
Leaders can be created by providing right training, mentoring, and creating opportunities to grow. We keep doing it on regular basis and have seen many transformations.
I strongly believe, “Leaders are not born they are made”
